Dock Street Theatre

This lovely place has so much history behind it! It was built in the early 16th century on the corner of Church and Dock Street (It's namesake, now known as Queen Street). This was the first building in America that was built exclusively to be used for theatre. It's first performance was The Recruiting Officer, and since then the Dock Street has housed hundreds of other performances.
This place has been through a lot, what with the civil war and the great fire of 1740, it even went through a change in which it was used as a hotel! They even say Dock Street Theatre is home to a few ghosts!
After all the Dock Street has been through however, it has always stuck to its roots. It reopened for the third time in 2010 after a 3 year renovation. It is now owned and managed by the city of Charleston, and used during Spoleto and by Charleston Stage theatre company. If you are looking for a wonderful historic experience while pursuing your thespian needs, the Dock Street is the place for you.
